Stephen Walz

Stephen Walz is the Senior Advisor for Energy Policy in the Office of Governor Tim Kaine. As part of his effort, he is overseeing the development of the Virginia Energy Plan, which will set out recommendations for state energy actions over the next 10 years.

Mr. Walz previously served as Director of the Division of Administration of the Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy. His duties included managing policy, legislative and regulatory development, fiscal, general service, and information technology activities of the Department. Mr. Walz has served in other positions at the department including Director of the Division of Energy and in policy and energy efficiency program management positions. He started his work in Virginia in 1980 at the Office of Emergency and Energy Services. Prior to joining Virginia state government, Mr. Walz worked in energy and community development programs in Missouri and Nebraska.

Mr. Walz has a BS in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. He lives in Richmond with his wife. They have two children in college and one graduated and working in Virginia.
